Komodo dragons belong to the lizard family Varanidae and the Toxicofera tribe with a length of 2-3 meters. Due to the phenomenon of island gigantism, Komodo dragons have become very large. Island gigantism is the tendency of some species to grow very large in small island habitats, due to the lack of large mammal predators and the relatively low metabolic rate of Komodo dragons.
