The Bajra Sandhi Monument was a symbol of the Bali people’s struggle for 5000 years, from 3000 BC to 1975 which marked the beginning of the era of independence. The architecture of the monument is inspired by Hindu bells and surrounded by lush green trees. Construction of the monument began in 1987 and was inaugurated by President Megawati Soekarno Putri on June 14, 2003. The main hall is adorned with stone carvings and 33 dioramas depicting the struggle of the Balinese people that became the nation’s greatest achievement. Structurally, the monument resembles a “gentra” or “bajra”, a ritual bell used by Hindu priests in religious ceremonies.
Taman Ayun Temple is an ancient historical heritage that was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2002 by affirming its high historical value. This temple was built by King Mengwi with a stunning architectural design and there is a fishpond surrounding it. The temple complex is divided into three areas: the first large courtyard with beautiful gardens, the courtsecond yard with towers (wood bells) ringing on certain days, and the third courtyard which is the main location of Taman Ayun Temple.

This ancient Hindu temple stands firmly on a rock formation surrounded by ocean waves. The name “Tanah Lot” has an interesting meaning, reflecting the unique characteristics of the temple’s location. The term is a combination of two meaningful words in the local language. “Tanah” describes a coral formation that rises in the middle of the sea, forming a small island-like appearance or what is locally called a ‘gili’. On the other side, the word “Lot” or “Lod” carries the meaning of “sea” in Balinese.
