Badung Traditional Market is a centre of shopping activity that offers a variety of daily needs. In this market, visitors can witness directly the interaction of the Balinese people in transactions as well as see the variety of local materials that support their lives. The market is strategically located in the center of Denpasar City and operates for 24 hours with a wide variety of trading activities. Badung Market was officially opened on April 24, 1984, by the then Governor of Bali, Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra. After suffering a fire disaster, the market underwent renovations in 2000 under the leadership of Bali’s Governor Dewa Made Berata. The market has an area of approximately 14,544 m² with an additional garden area of 9,064 m² consisting of four floors. Historically, the name “Badung Market” was taken from the Badung River that flows nearby, which is the largest river that runs through the city of Denpasar.
Jagatnatha Temple is a stunning sacred building with Balinese ornaments adorning every corner of the temple, from the entrance gate to the main building, and is strategically located in the center of Denpasar City. At the front of the temple is a large courtyard decorated with a beautiful tropical garden. The towering temple building in the center of the complex is the main temple used as a place of worship for Balinese Hindus. The uniqueness of Jagatnatha Temple lies in the absence of pengemong (a group or organization responsible for temple maintenance) as is commonly found in other temples in Bali. Instead, the temple is cared for by volunteers and devotees. Jagatnatha Temple is built facing west towards Mount Agung, which is believed to be the residence of the gods.
The Bali Museum is strategically located in the center of Denpasar and adjoins the Jagatnatha Temple. The collection of objects on display at the Bali Museum can be grouped into several categories: prehistoric artifacts such as sarcophagi (stone coffins), objects from historical times such as clay stupika containing Ye Te mantras, bronze statues, and ethnographic collections that include krises, endek cloth, and religious ceremonial equipment. The establishment of Museum Bali was motivated by an awareness of the importance of preserving, conserving, and maintaining Bali’s cultural heritage. The main purpose of building the Bali Museum is to preserve and preserve the history of Balinese culture from the past in the hope that historical records and archaeological discoveries that tell the story of Bali’s journey will not be lost to time.
Bajra Sandhi Monument is a monument dedicated to commemorating the struggle of the Balinese people located in the center of Denpasar City. The monument is known as Bajra Sandhi because its shape resembles Bajra or Genta, which is a bell used by Hindu priests in reciting the sacred Vedic mantra during religious ceremonies. The construction of this monument began in 1987 and was inaugurated by President Megawati Soekarno Putri on June 14, 2003. The purpose of establishing the Bajra Sandhi Monument is to perpetuate the spirit and soul of the struggle of the Balinese people, as well as an effort to explore, care for, develop, and preserve Balinese culture so that it can be passed on to the next generation as a provision in facing challenges and obstacles in the future. The design of this monument is very thick with Balinese nuances characterized by beautiful carvings that adorn every corner of the building.
