Some rhino species have different mouth shapes. White rhinos have wide, flat lips suitable for grazing on low vegetation. On the other hand, black rhino species have long, pointed lips to pick leaves from trees or shrubs. On the Asian continent, we have three species of rhinos, including the Indian Rhino, Javan Rhino and Sumatran Rhino. Bali Safari Park offers an incredible safari adventure as visitors can witness more than 60 species of animals including hundreds of rare and endangered animals. Some of the animals on the endangered species list include the Komodo dragon, Orang Utan, and Bali Starling. The Double-beaked Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the few surviving giant animals. The Rhino is the second largest mammal after the elephant. Although nicknamed the “White Rhino”, it is interesting that this animal has a brownish-gray skin. Animal lovers can participate in supporting animal conservation programs by visiting Bali Safari and Marine Park.
Rhino or commonly called “Badak” in Indonesia is an animal that is on the verge of extinction. Among the large mammals in Indonesia, rhinos are the most endangered. There are two species of rhinos in Indonesia, the Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) and the Javan rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus), of which only a very small number remain. Due to their large body size, adult rhinos can weigh up to 1 ton. The characteristic of a rhino is the presence of one or two horns growing on the forehead. If there are two horns they are located behind the first horn, not side by side. The rhino’s thick skin, which can reach a thickness of 1.5 to 5 cm is made up of a strong collagen network. Although rhinos have excellent hearing and smell, their eyesight is limited to short ranges. Experts estimate that under ideal conditions, rhinos can live for more than four decades. Although classified as herbivores with a diet consisting of a variety of plants and fruits, rhinos are still considered dangerous animals. The combination of large body size, tremendous strength and strong territorial instincts makes them a creature to watch out for, especially in their natural habitat.
